</div>
Back in September, I found myself with a nasty bug, which left me laying helpless on the couch for a good week or so. After starting to feel a little bit 'down' from all of the daytime TV, and one seriously failed knitting project (a cowl that was SO huge, it stretched down past my toes- NO JOKE), I felt as thought it was worth pursuing some non-traditional forms of healing.<br />
<br />
So naturally, I started cruising the web for some new sock yarn.<br />
<br />
While browsing through literally hundreds (and hundreds!!!) of hand dyed yarn listings on Etsy, I stumbled upon one that had been aptly named <b>"Pessimists's Rainbow"</b> by <b><a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/WhiteBirchFiberArts?ref=l2-shopheader-name">White Birch Fiber</a><a href="https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/WhiteBirchFiberArts?ref=l2-shopheader-name"> Arts Studio</a>. </b>It is more than safe to say that this yarn 'had me at Hello'. Just the name of this colourway alone and I would have bought it! But when I caught a glimpse of the colours! Oh my...<br />
<br />
The yarn is a perfect combination of dreary grey/teal/blue/storm, with a dash of vivid rainbow. It perfectly mirrored exactly how I was feeling the day that I bought it- glum and dreary, but secretly happy about all of the knitting time I had found myself with, while flaked out on the couch (even if my project had turned out to be an utter failure).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV2oHB_nJkES4fArz0BKSql6C8652HCfkNyHdc3nuxvVOhxy1v0HFJBOBDlwi9nNiEXAUhb86o4N41Wdhy2-raqf-FrjnxFfBvrkpBUy_KG2TzFp7cm259yM4BwbLTlhBKVm8o-w/s1600/DSC03111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV2oHB_nJkES4fArz0BKSql6C8652HCfkNyHdc3nuxvVOhxy1v0HFJBOBDlwi9nNiEXAUhb86o4N41Wdhy2-raqf-FrjnxFfBvrkpBUy_KG2TzFp7cm259yM4BwbLTlhBKVm8o-w/s1600/DSC03111.JPG" height="320" width="254" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Within less than a minute I had added the yarn to my virtual shopping cart, checked out, and received an email confirmation that my order was being processed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All of a sudden, I was feeling much, <i>much</i> better.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5VWxK1UjMMLc8t7pUd4ZDGZ1N_ZsKVWuGlLr9lkZ_kOeRxi_6H7d_3QQfLDdPFDGTow4peSk2fD3yl7ARjwBRYQ9rS3sYCEhdUbM9_n2dcXAjoFz7A0LhhNvYqYxV2klfJ_sPQ/s1600/DSC03117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5VWxK1UjMMLc8t7pUd4ZDGZ1N_ZsKVWuGlLr9lkZ_kOeRxi_6H7d_3QQfLDdPFDGTow4peSk2fD3yl7ARjwBRYQ9rS3sYCEhdUbM9_n2dcXAjoFz7A0LhhNvYqYxV2klfJ_sPQ/s1600/DSC03117.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The yarn arrived a few short days later, but I didn't cast on right away. Instead, the yarn sat next to my knitting chair for several months, so that I could admire it daily. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finally cast on while on vacation last month, and you could say that knitting these socks filled me with just as much joy as buying the yarn did. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The moral of the story?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9TMiWvmdmLnjlRYkpTLCmPaxjyIp7o0rTNM3EMnTASXpD2kgpUalUW0GNFE3wg61XYX0j_vJYBEp6yFGaOyLAXDyt9I0mMy_JMiBb7BjG3VOHSzORLx7V9TSBuxi4HInqQviZVQ/s1600/DSC03109.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9TMiWvmdmLnjlRYkpTLCmPaxjyIp7o0rTNM3EMnTASXpD2kgpUalUW0GNFE3wg61XYX0j_vJYBEp6yFGaOyLAXDyt9I0mMy_JMiBb7BjG3VOHSzORLx7V9TSBuxi4HInqQviZVQ/s1600/DSC03109.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Buying new sock yarn is a perfectly reasonable cure for the common cold,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And finally getting around to knitting it up doesn't hurt either.<br /><br />As if you needed another excuse to buy more...</div>

<br>
I am back... having been nowhere in particular, for over two months!!! I shall spare you my musings on my being busy <i>blah, blah, blah.</i>.. because honestly though, who isn't? Nothing makes for more boring conversation/blog reading than 'busy talk' anyway.<br>
<br>
But let's just say that life has happened, it's all good, but I am glad to be back here on the blog.<br>
<br>Things may be a tad more hectic than when I spoke to you last (I am working full time once again, and YES!!! My job is yarn related! <i>PHEW!</i>) but I shall talk about all of that at a later date.<br>
<br>
In the meantime, I just wanted to check in, and let you know that I am still knitting lots.<br>
<br>
Proof?<br>
<br>
Well, here's a quick selfie to prove it.<br>
<br>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMu2pTWs2209FHMkuhKwIwynWMBTAdCecQ-5BNxSmoJGQtNZM_zR3jhxaIQq870RNFqdqxE_qNQ4U6SUsx8R74PKPJ_15Fsgb9rQXVPpdCBCNDEmHQB37XEFWZR5N5UzZAIJgG-w/s1600/IMG_2956.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMu2pTWs2209FHMkuhKwIwynWMBTAdCecQ-5BNxSmoJGQtNZM_zR3jhxaIQq870RNFqdqxE_qNQ4U6SUsx8R74PKPJ_15Fsgb9rQXVPpdCBCNDEmHQB37XEFWZR5N5UzZAIJgG-w/s1600/IMG_2956.JPG" height="400" width="400"></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">What you can't see... is the fabulous faux fur pompom <br>
from <a href="http://www.blogto.com/design/mokuba">Mokuba</a> that is perched atop this hat!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br>
<br>
A hat/cowl combo that I made for myself as soon as the temperature took a real dive sometime in mid-January,<br>
<br>
The hat was a pattern that I made up as I went, and it actually worked! (Believe me... it doesn't tend to!), using a yarn by <b><a href="http://madelinetosh.com/">Madelinetosh</a></b> that was a BD gift from a dear friend.<br>
<br>
The cowl is some super chunky wool by<b><a href="http://www.americo.ca/"> Americo</a></b>, that I happened to pick up at <a href="http://creativeyarns.ca/"><b>Creative Yarns</b></a> one evening after work, when all I really 'needed' was a set of needles. Funny how that happens... isn't it?<br>
<br>
And so my friends, I hope that you are all well, and still knitting tonnes.<br>
<br>
I shall touch base with you in a day or so.<br>
<br>
PROMISE!<br>
<br>
Thank you for still being there! It means a lot.<br>
<br>
And it is so nice to finally be back.<br>
<br>

My mom's birthday is September 28th, and this year, I knit her something that I have wanted to make her for-EVER. Being that I am not the best with deadlines however (I would be the first to admit that), I missed her actual birthday. But lucky for me... the nature of this gift allowed me to give it to her on December 1st.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having said that, would anyone want to wager a guess as to what it is that I made her?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Did you say "Lynn, did you make your mom an advent calender in the form of 24 tiny mittens?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you did... then YOU ARE RIGHT!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmL-Hpb5fnkeTq8olGK3ZaEEf3IwYvSVELe3n-d4GIHKsvpUtUUYTLN_eaMFIvo7t3KzLc5XGy0gTJH6NgYa5_9A823lckkPX_OLrQDCvYZdr4tsazfDBGdDoFKgfPQ1S0kUCnTQ/s1600/DSC02730.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmL-Hpb5fnkeTq8olGK3ZaEEf3IwYvSVELe3n-d4GIHKsvpUtUUYTLN_eaMFIvo7t3KzLc5XGy0gTJH6NgYa5_9A823lckkPX_OLrQDCvYZdr4tsazfDBGdDoFKgfPQ1S0kUCnTQ/s1600/DSC02730.JPG" height="494" width="640" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While the mittens themselves did not take a tonne of time to knit (I'd say just under 45 minutes per mitten), it was the finishing of each one that took eons.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I knew as I was knitting them that I should really have been sewing up each one as I went, but of course... I like knitting best. And as soon as I cast off one little mitt, I would turn a blind eye at the finishing, and cast on the next one. Which is why... the gift was delayed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Nobody in their right mind would take sewing in the ends on 24 tiny mittens over knitting more tiny mittens. Am I right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
But lucky for me... my mom loves me anyway. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The yarn? Was stash. All of it. And I would just like to take a moment to stop and pat myself on the back because <b>NOT ONE BALL OF YARN WAS PURCHASED FOR THE MAKING OF THIS GARLAND</b>. Which in many ways... is sort of scary if you actually think about it. (Read- I have A LOT of yarn).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It was loads of fun to dig through my mountains of yarn bins in the basement and co-ordinate "Christmassy" colours. While the bulk of the yarn that I used was <a href="http://www.estelleyarns.com/cascade-yarns/cascade-220-solids.php?&tc=20141203123118">Cascade 220</a>, there is also some <a href="http://brownsheep.com/yarns/lamb-pride?view=category">Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride</a>, <a href="http://www.manosyarns.com/the_yarns/clasica/">Manos Del Uruguay Clasica Wool</a>, <a href="http://fleeceartist.com/product/bfl-aran/">Fleece Artist BFL Aran</a>, <a href="http://www.classiceliteyarns.com/product_page_detail.php?category_id=1&item_id=72">Classic Elite Majestic Tweed</a>, <a href="http://www.knitrowan.com/yarns/rowan-tweed-aran">Rowan Tweed Aran</a>, <a href="http://www.berroco.com/yarns/berroco-ultra-alpaca">Ultra Alpaca</a>, <a href="http://madelinetosh.com/store/index.php/yarns/tosh-vintage.html">Madelinetosh Vintage</a> and even some now discontinued Punta Merino was thrown into the mix. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Now... I dare you to try saying all of THAT in one breath!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmxNaazCC4gHeWK7gjDuSVVdxUAP7qdzfMDrEj608xBthb625NxCzKMuKBdh0VO1RgUnSSftsn2RGr0mWPvQH4LvHVZY0YeQUgSSMM9rLYtOCr8TkxTB7wSpGXXi6tdzxrbICvTw/s1600/DSC02733.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmxNaazCC4gHeWK7gjDuSVVdxUAP7qdzfMDrEj608xBthb625NxCzKMuKBdh0VO1RgUnSSftsn2RGr0mWPvQH4LvHVZY0YeQUgSSMM9rLYtOCr8TkxTB7wSpGXXi6tdzxrbICvTw/s1600/DSC02733.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I knit two mittens out of each colour, and then two <i>reeeeally</i> long i-cords. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The tags are<a href="http://www.staples.ca/en/Staples-Key-Tags-with-Metal-Ring-1-1-4-White-50-Pack/product_169759_2-CA_1_20001"> 'key tags' from Staples</a>. I tried some tags from Michael's initially, but they ended up being so giant, that they dwarfed the already tiny mittens.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there you have it. Wishing a very happy (and very belated) birthday to my Mom!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Today marks the two year anniversary of the day that my husband and I said "I do". Can I just be the first to say "Where does time go???" The scary part about all of this... is that time just seems to be going faster and faster. At least that means that we're still having fun! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In any case, not only is it two years since we exchanged vows, danced with all of our favourite people until the wee hours and ate until our wedding clothes were about to bust open... it also marks two years since I gave the man I love, a pair of plain grey socks that I had knit for him.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those of you who are new (or even just new-ish) to this blog,<a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2013/01/cold-feet-not-if-i-can-help-it.html"> you can read the full story here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And while <a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2013/11/one-year.html">I mentioned last year that I wasn't so sure I could commit to a pair for each and every year that we are married</a>, (I was twelve days late with my delivery last year), I found myself unable to ignore the grey sock yarn at the yarn store come mid-September.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So what did I do?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I cast on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But as you can see... I made even less progress than I did last year.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

However, what I lack in sock, I make up for in greeting card.<br />
<br />
Is that cute or what?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Oh, and love. I make up for it in love too.<br />

<br /></div>
<br />
Happy Anniversary dear husband!<br />
<br />
Here's to many more pairs of unfinished socks.<br />
<br />
And more and more love and adventure with each pair that gets cast on.<br />

Well... maybe.Lynn One, Purl Twohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15181530163922590879noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32533208.post-63273562079619495962014-10-17T13:45:00.002-04:002014-10-17T13:47:42.963-04:00"Officially" Done<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As some of you may now know... I have finally finished <b>The Shawl That Took Me Longer Than Anything I Have Ever Knit In My Entire Life</b>. Those who know me well, know how much time I spent on this project. In fact... those of you who don't know me at all, other than from this here blog know how much time I spent on this project. And while I loved every minute of it, and would even go so far as to say that I miss working on it... I am <b><u>so</u></b> happy that I am done with it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And not just "done with it" in the "Yah, I'm done. I cast off. I just need to sew in the ends, block it and get it up on Ravelry" sense of the term. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am ACTUALLY done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have cast off. I have sewn in the ends. I have blocked it, and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lynn1purl2/soumak-scarf-wrap">I have it up on Ravelry</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's about as 'done' as any knitting project could possibly get.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisFnF8drZY-40I3ZCPLghOixln0em04iNlac62qx1AFwVoWvWk8Y-TDG3IQo6X8u2uBDiMCK74Fay_7jo8SL70Lg5j5o6D0TZG6gL-wlBYA0zPmd2anhlUToO7FmWZ9fpzZkp-yg/s1600/DSC_1131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisFnF8drZY-40I3ZCPLghOixln0em04iNlac62qx1AFwVoWvWk8Y-TDG3IQo6X8u2uBDiMCK74Fay_7jo8SL70Lg5j5o6D0TZG6gL-wlBYA0zPmd2anhlUToO7FmWZ9fpzZkp-yg/s1600/DSC_1131.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I am fortunate enough to have a lot of really good people (aka 'knitters') in my life who just 'get it' when a project of such proportions comes off the needles, I had one show up at my door on the Monday of the Thanksgiving long weekend and say "Come on! Get outside and let me take your picture with your beautiful new shawl!" <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Okay... not really... I might have actually known that she was coming, but still... It is insanely nice of her to crawl out of bed on a holiday Monday to come over to my place and snap some pics!)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhESSGP6pwmlVdHX6u2OiA5lxVkTBMQqfuIuIxIgltumJiwjWE4p7_VhoLSuHlGIsIChnmzMcUvEBti3ds93PYaFN_cpssjz2nsaZ14FK6LiZRVwPNZYKA9OlgW4okp4Acp4t3jrA/s1600/DSC_1136.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhESSGP6pwmlVdHX6u2OiA5lxVkTBMQqfuIuIxIgltumJiwjWE4p7_VhoLSuHlGIsIChnmzMcUvEBti3ds93PYaFN_cpssjz2nsaZ14FK6LiZRVwPNZYKA9OlgW4okp4Acp4t3jrA/s1600/DSC_1136.jpg" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So here you have it. A collection of photos taken by <a href="http://www.msteekay.blogspot.ca/">my good friend Tara</a>. Not only does her photography beautifully capture the most colourful time of year, it also does a pretty good job of capturing a project that can easily claim the title of 'most colourful', as least as far as my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lynn1purl2">Ravelry project page</a> is concerned.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
As it just so happens, I bought this yarn while in London with my family, visiting my sister last February. In the days leading up to our trip, my husband asked me what I was looking forward to most. I replied with "I can't wait to walk into <a href="http://www.liberty.co.uk/">Liberty</a>, with all the time in the world, and pick out a pattern, some yarn and some needles to make a project for ME". While I could tell he was a tad puzzled that I didn't respond with "I can't wait to go to the <a href="http://www.iwm.org.uk/">Imperial War Museum</a> with YOU honey!" he knows better than to react negatively to such a statement. At least not to my face anyway. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Why the heck do you think I married him!?!?!?)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So, the thing about most of my knitting lately... is that it has mostly been in preparation for the 2014 gift giving season. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yah, I know. None of us want to acknowledge that Christmas is actually going to happen anytime soon, <i>especially</i> with this beautiful, warm Fall that we are having. After last winter, we are all understandably, in denial. But since this seems to be the year that I have found myself with a bit more time than I have in the past, I thought I would bite the bullet and knit socks for (almost) everyone on my list. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Uhm... sorry about the little spoiler there dear loved ones).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So while I shall try not bore you with each and every pair as I churn through them, this pair in particular seems to warrant a shout out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And why is that??? You ask.</div>

And while I am not going to share the colourway here until these puppies have been gifted to one faithful blog reader in particular, (hence, the black and white photography), I do need to tell you about the yarn itself. Because each and every stitch was like a little slice of heaven.</div>

<b>The yarn?</b> <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/northbound-knitting-superwash-merino-nylon-fingering">Northbound Knitting's Superwash Merino/Nylon</a>. The perfect blend for a pair of hard wearing socks, but still an absolute pleasure to knit up.<br />
<br />
This is a yarn I had never knit with, let alone heard of, before stumbling into <a href="http://www.lettuceknit.com/">Lettuce Knit</a> one day this past summer. It has a beautifully tight twist and I suspect will wear well in the recipient's boots throughout the entirety of this upcoming Canadian winter (and hopefully, a few more after that!)<br />
<br />
<b>The good news?</b> I can now cross another Christmas gift off of my list.<br />
<b>The bad news?</b> I can no longer knit with this beautiful, bouncy yarn!<br />
<b>The silver lining? </b>I happen to have also snagged a skein of it for myself.<br />
<br />
Because isn't that how <i>everyone</i> plays the sock yarn game?<br />

That's cute."<br />
<br />
Have you?<br />
<br />
Do you know the kind of projects I mean?<br />
<br />
For example, you fall in love with a skein of hand painted yarn and cast on a cardigan out of it, only to have it pool in 100 different places? You keep going because you manage to convince yourself that no one will ever notice, and your knitting friends assure you that they won't. But then along comes your non-knitting friends who take one quick look at it and go "You're really going to wear that?" Oh the face they would pull if they only knew what you had paid for the yarn...<br />
<br />
Or maybe you cast on a pattern that includes a technique you have been simply dying to try, only to cast off and realize that perhaps it wasn't the best technique/ project pairing? Once again, your non-knitting friends are immediately captivated by the new technique you have tackled, while the non-knitters make you feel as you though cutting a hole at the top of a feed sack would have been more impressive.<br />
<br />
I suspect this is because knitter's "get it". They know how much time you have invested in the knitting, they know why you would want to spend all that time fine tuning a new technique, and they know why you would want to drop all of that cash on those few skeins of hand painted yarn. They just walk your walk and speak your speak, and THAT, is really comforting.<br />
<br />
I ask you all of this, because I am finding myself in that very predicament right now.<br />
<br />
I have some dear friends expecting a baby, and I want to make them something jaw-droppingly-adorable.<br />
<br />
So, I cast on a pair of baby pants.<br />
<br />
While the yarn feels simply glorious, and my knitting friends have all gushed about them, I can already hear that dreaded "Hm. That's cute." from my non-knitting-baby-expecting friends.<br />
<br />
While they will no doubt appreciate all of the work that I put into the pants, I think that they might wonder about my yarn selection and secretly hope and pray that 'Auntie Lynn' decides to never knit for their baby again.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioi71k38D4Opx6RqruaAoo1bbapNTAkwCszdD3F4VD8VtRUqQ_rtgizGJj4Hlzop-kGpgF_ZsOKvQ4pvjNNR6XxwnpUF9Hnt9CRcsRWrrT8BKISmqZzM7dAJBidvsT-_vZVoDUAA/s1600/DSC02258.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioi71k38D4Opx6RqruaAoo1bbapNTAkwCszdD3F4VD8VtRUqQ_rtgizGJj4Hlzop-kGpgF_ZsOKvQ4pvjNNR6XxwnpUF9Hnt9CRcsRWrrT8BKISmqZzM7dAJBidvsT-_vZVoDUAA/s1600/DSC02258.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table>
So what do you think knitting friends?<br />
<br />
Am I just imagining it?<br />
<br />
Or are these pretty insane for a non-knitter to put on their baby?<br />
<br />
Perhaps I am best off just knitting for expectant knitters exclusively.<br />
<br />
Because even if the finished project does end up looking like a hot mess, at least I know that they will understand and appreciate why I did what I did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Am I right?<br />

If you can believe it... after months and months and MONTHS of knitting, I can finally say that I have officially cast off my <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soumak-scarf-wrap">Soumak shawl</a>.</div>

I know that this 'not working' thing won't last forever, so while it <i>is</i> happening, I shall embrace it with VERY open arms. Especially if it means I have the opportunity to clock some extra knitting time...<br />
<br />
While I cannot claim to have stuck to this 'knit for one hour rule' of mine everyday, I have done pretty well. I have worked mostly on my <a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2014/06/whats-on-my-needles.html">Soumak shawl</a> during these one hour stints, and as one might suspect...I am loving it.<br />
<br />
On days that the weather is beautiful, I sit outside and knit away, and on the days that it's not so gorgeous, I curl up on the couch.<br />
<br />
The one thing that does always remain the same however? I always listen to a knitting podcast while I knit in the morning. What better way to start the day?<br />
<br />
Which leads me to... this post.<br />
<br />
A friend of mine recently asked me "What are some decent knitting podcasts that I could listen to?", which I thought was a rather good question.<br />
<br />
So without further ado, here is a list of five podcasts that have been keeping me company during my early morning knit sessions.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://www.knitmoregirlspodcast.com/">The Knitmore Girls</a></b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.knitmoregirlspodcast.com/"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisI_guJWquoinlX7QLr58jNl3SqhNFkXTL2j0bOfE-W0BsrrGO9rcdDiWKVys0mkEYBH-Z-HMET92_z4mv39oJ3IPLqXvmmBfX78Hyr-L_L0SLcyozyaxCB60DyBtJ-CVW2fGpDQ/s1600/Knitmore+Girls.jpg" height="104" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This mother/daughter duo have their show broken into perfect little segments, all of which I love. Each episode is typically an hour long, which works perfectly with my alloted morning knitting time. They knit, they spin, the sew, and they adore neon sock yarn just as much as I do. What more could I want? They stick to a pretty strict weekly schedule, and you can count on me to always listen to the latest episode as soon as it drops. Maybe it's the mother/daughter/knitting thing that I relate to... I'm not entirely sure. But one thing I do know? I like this pair.</div>
<br />
<b><a href="http://www.knittingpipeline.com/">Knitting Pipeline</a> </b><br />
<b> </b><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.knittingpipeline.com/"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq8fDcY3rHt8ageiP9N3vOw-gqCLrAR0gQ9Z8HE9wkRsEZA5wfqHOvZsvrY99BzcEK5GrNBiigpf-qI7Uti356u1EQecM-rFx7Lybq1UbbKRfgMl9m84EFFIIi3ree8R03OWTkSw/s1600/knitting+pipeline.png" height="48" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I must admit that I have not listened to the lovely Paula in quite some time, but she is one smart lady. I really must get back to her... The name of her podcast comes from her love of not only knitting (obviously), but playing the bag pipes as well. I recall telling a friend about this podcast once, and she laughed at me, thinking that my description made it sound just about as exciting as watching paint peel (sorry for not doing you justice Paula!!!) But when she gave it a listen, she ate her words. It's good. Just trust me on this. You will walk away having learned a little something new every time.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://cast-on.com/">Cast On</a></b><br />
<br />
I feel as though Brenda Dayne can be heralded as one of the pioneers of knit-podcasting. I remember listening to her while I was in university eight or nine years ago (oh geez... How long HAS it been anyway???). While she has been a little more sporatic with her posting in recent years due to... life, her library of episodes is impressive, and will keep you listening for months on end. Her voice is wonderful (she reads audiobooks from time to time for a bit of mad money) and her knitting knowledge is extensive. Brenda is an American transplant in Wales, and she satisfies my inner lover of the UK.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://imake.gg/">iMake</a></b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://imake.gg/"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgX6nfm6SbH3LEeOWRyJ4Noy9v8yj1xYzRLdC9mWbmusqw9tsLyCixN-YgdBQIqylh1wkzknCGCdaZ8LdAuE_wHIUKAAh6XyDuQhkSHsRwPRQ63HbW1jXqzgMbGQ-i_QjPQDqWrtQ/s1600/iMake.png" height="59" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This podcast is a more recent discovery for me, but I was hooked immediately. Focussed on so much more than just knitting, Martine's lovely accent and interest in all things crafty keeps me coming back for more.While her posts are also somewhat sporatic, it's always worth the wait.<br />
<br />
<b><a href="http://voolenvineknits.blogspot.ca/">Voolenvine</a></b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://voolenvineknits.blogspot.ca/"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnazeagVuHu7KoyEkXiIg284Fxj-ax4xpizwocW1LVE4P5WjjXpQ5dwiCh8WdvQUA7WjtTgmBCu7MeucLSIfBX8Vkwc7B1h8WfG_9vFlPW8gwA5xrUp31SN852_ZhkfpvXMVagQ/s1600/YarnGasm_KWVoolenvine_BloggerHeader.png" height="101" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This podcast is one that started as a podcast, and then eventually evolved into a full time vidcast. Kristen's episdoes are posted on Youtube (at least, that's where I get them from), and I must admit that it is a treat for a visual person like me to have the opportunity to actually see what is currently on her needles. Her episodes are short, typically no more than 30 minutes, and it's mostly just chit-chat, with a "shop update" to wrap things up, as she recently started to dye and sell yarn. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, and I just like her. I'm pretty sure that if we slightly closer in proximity, we would be buds.<br />
<br />
So! There you have it. Let me know if love any of these podcasts as much as I do! And if not... which ones ARE you into?<br />
<br />
Let me know!<br />
<br />
Happy knitting!<br />
<br />

I have grafted the toe on my third pair of neon socks this summer.<br />
<br />
And do you want to know something?<br />
<br />
I <i>still</i> feel my heart skip a beat each time I look at this growing stack of neon.<br />

Since the shop closed at the end of May, I can honestly admit to being VERY proud of how well I have stuck to my <a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2014/06/whats-on-my-needles.html">Soumak shawl</a>. Not exclusively of course... as you have seen the few things that I have churned through other than the <a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2014/06/whats-on-my-needles.html">Soumak</a>, but I have done pretty well. Actually, let me rephrase that- for <u>ME</u>, I have done well. When it comes to knitting... monogamy is not something that I feel too strongly about. But as it turns out.. not many knitters do. Which is exactly why I like knitters so much.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I am loving every stitch and every colour of my shawl, I must admit- it is taking WAY longer than I could have ever dreamed possible. As in... it is safe to say that I have never devoted so much time to a project in my entire knitting career.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To be fair, it's huge. Like... MASSIVE. Which is exactly what I wanted! So who knows why I am so surprised. The needles are only 3.75 mm, and the yarn is not exactly what one could classify as a 'chunky' weight. So, yeah. That's what happens.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So how do you think I am going to keep myself motivated with this project?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You guessed it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp2N5lo_0Qj2ncr5peVgJzp9OfQyPWbhk7jhIekplaMUMOKscjI9KH4hWIDgh06ci14Vc7UjCPfX5geFfbA05qJ523PnxsHOyP4fSgJ4lNIY_83jG94_Okehu4aaP-kXxOJ0CZOw/s1600/DSC02026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp2N5lo_0Qj2ncr5peVgJzp9OfQyPWbhk7jhIekplaMUMOKscjI9KH4hWIDgh06ci14Vc7UjCPfX5geFfbA05qJ523PnxsHOyP4fSgJ4lNIY_83jG94_Okehu4aaP-kXxOJ0CZOw/s1600/DSC02026.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am going to cast on a quick and easy project with a pair of 12.75 mm needles and watch something just FLY off the needles for a change of pace.<br />

I love the colour red. And do you want to know something? I didn't even realize how much I loved red until a friend of mine pointed it out a few years back. This particular pal gave me a red necklace and said "I thought you would like it since it's your favourite colour". While I most certainly appreciated the thought that went into the gift, I did find myself thinking "Really? It is? Red, eh?" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How absolutely stupid is that??? I didn't even realize it at the time... but red is a colour that I just tend to gravitate towards like crazy. The chairs in our family room are red, my <a href="http://www.kitchenaid.ca/en_CA/shop/countertop-appliances-1/stand-mixers-3/102310156/">Kitchen Aid stand mixer</a> is red, <a href="http://www.bodum.com/gb/en-us/shop/detail/10709-294UK/">my toaster</a> is red, red is my preferred nail polish shade (<a href="http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=26904/Big-Apple-Red/OPI/Polishes">this one in particular</a>)... Red is best. What can I say? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, remember that trip to New York that my sister and I took over the May long weekend? Well, I have something to show and tell from that trip- other than <a href="http://lynn1purl2.blogspot.ca/2014/06/chevron-baby.html">my chevron baby blanket</a>, and it is <span style="font-size: x-small;">(no surprise)</span> red. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As soon as we had dumped our bags in the hotel, we marched out the door and went straight to<a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl"> Purl Soho</a>. They happened to have a sample of a vest knit up in the shop, I promptly fell in love with it, so I bought the yarn and cast on that evening.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I was standing in Purl, humming and hawing over the vast colour selection that was literally right at my finger tips, the lady at the desk said "You should totally get the red", to which I replied "Yah? And why is that?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I realized it was a stupid question as soon as I saw her eyes lower right down to the bright red pants that I was wearing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Red it is.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Why yes I did take a picture of this vest on a mannequin out on my roof. <br />
What of it?</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will just have to keep in mind not to ever mix this vest with those pants.</div>

<br />
I used the yarn that the pattern called for, <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/9239-Purl-Soho-Worsted-Twist">Purl's own super wash merino</a>. It made it seem like a pretty solid souvenir of our trip that way. A yarn that I couldn't possibly buy anywhere else (well, as far as I know...) So, it is officially what I will forever and always affectionately refer to as my "Bright Red New York City Vest". Not the least bit creative... but it will never be confused with any other vest that I might own.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But despite that very pleasant thought however, cutting into my knitting just goes against everything I ever knew to be true about knitting-up until that day.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

So we're back. And while we have been back for a few days at this point... I have felt jet lagged and groggy and in no place to write anything coherent. Which is weird... because there is only a one hour time difference between home and Marshfield, WI. Who knew that knitting information overload and jet lag could have the same effects?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In any case, I thought that I would wrap up the week with some point form <a href="http://www.schoolhousepress.com/camp.htm">Knit Camp</a> notes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In short- Knit Camp? So good. Like... SO good. I can't say that I did much research into Knit Camp before setting sail. I just knew that I loved Meg Swanson. But man oh man, am I ever glad that we went.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We met wonderful people, ate some decent food, knit A LOT of stitches and learned even more about those stitches than we knew possible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Knit Camp. You're great. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And readers? If you are considering going at some point in this lifetime- GET ON IT. Do whatever it is you have to do to get there, and then go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So without further ado, in point form, I present to you a quick summary of what went down in Wisconsin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As one might expect, we knit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

One morning, while we were in the thick of things at the shop, I woke up and the very first thing that popped into my head was "I really want to go to <a href="http://www.schoolhousepress.com/camp.htm">Meg Swanson's <u>Knit Camp</u></a> with Tara this summer".<br />
<br />
So, I stumbled downstairs, hit the brew cycle on the coffee machine and got on my laptop. Before the coffee had even finished doing it's thing, I had sent off an email to <a href="http://www.schoolhousepress.com/">Schoolhouse Press</a> that said "I know that your camp fills up a year in advance, but should you have any openings crop up, could you please keep me in mind? My friend Tara and I are very interested." (Tara just didn't know that she was interested yet...)<br />
<br />
Some lovely lady on the other end named Tami said that she would let me know, and I figured that would be the last of it.<br />
<br />
Well wouldn't you believe it... not a week later, and that dear Tami pulled through and managed to get us into the first session of the Summer. Well I'll be darned...<br />
<br />
I forwarded the email to Tara who promptly booked the days off work, and BOOM.<br />
<br />
We were going.<br />
<br />
Just like that.<br />
<br />
And you know what?<br />
<br />
Departure time is bright and early tomorrow morning.<br />
<br />
The two of us shall be spending our weekend in Wisconsin, eating cheese and learning how to knit all over again with the wonderful<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meg_Swansen"> Meg Swanson</a>.<br />
<br />
But do you know what I am doing right now? <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Hint- it's definitely not packing).</span><br />
<br />
Knitting more neon socks. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(In very bad light, as this picture would indicate).</span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCLNZQvido3oWuL-t_TzXIeOl_5hMQCsNYnZb_1YY5JObnjwNxLAY5bsXeHPDKsP67vywjrXod3PAyNdToLPEhVh_TfQNTkH6a28nx22zNbdLQokZcwmNey_0dMqkZeKdzixWzNQ/s1600/photo+(12).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCLNZQvido3oWuL-t_TzXIeOl_5hMQCsNYnZb_1YY5JObnjwNxLAY5bsXeHPDKsP67vywjrXod3PAyNdToLPEhVh_TfQNTkH6a28nx22zNbdLQokZcwmNey_0dMqkZeKdzixWzNQ/s1600/photo+(12).JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Queue "I Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And I feel as though it is safe to say that if <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Zimmermann">Elizabeth Zimmermann</a> were still here on earth and monitoring admissions to her beloved camp, that right there would be an automatic FAIL.<br />
<br />
EZ and neon? I doubt it.<br />
<br />
See you on the flip side friends!<br />

Earlier in the week, a friend asked me "So, what's on your needles?" and it occurred to me that now I am no longer in the shop, it's not something I talk about NEARLY as much as I once did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And you know what? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I miss it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So while I have never been a huge fan of posting my works in progress<span style="font-size: x-small;"> (because I am afraid that you might ask me about projects that I long ago abandoned and make me feel guilty about it...)</span>, I think it's about time that I started. Because heaven only knows... I could make this entire blog about nothing other than "what's on my needles", and have enough content to post every day for the next 14 years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So without further ado, I present to you the project that has had my (almost) undivided attention for the last little while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVo1uHx2GmyzNzxMmdH0OohkbOgZJhZzm_CGHtb2kCemYEEuUwo6iqiBdJvbs8JSjoYeu966WmhCCpRFf6IeStDU4NaWjfFZs-imVVc16YnvklV1d_t5Q35jK_euNZVDtYxXlwsA/s1600/DSC01604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVo1uHx2GmyzNzxMmdH0OohkbOgZJhZzm_CGHtb2kCemYEEuUwo6iqiBdJvbs8JSjoYeu966WmhCCpRFf6IeStDU4NaWjfFZs-imVVc16YnvklV1d_t5Q35jK_euNZVDtYxXlwsA/s1600/DSC01604.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>The pattern?</b> It's called <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soumak-scarf-wrap">Soumak</a>, and it's free on Ravelry. It was also published in Rowan 54, but it would appear as though a British lifestyle magazine included it in an issue, then made it free on the interwebs. I dig.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>The yarn?</b> Not what they called for... The pattern calls for <a href="http://www.knitrowan.com/yarns/rowan-fine-tweed">Rowan Fine Tweed</a>, and while it is stunning and beautiful and all of that good stuff... I opted to swap it out for some <a href="http://www.knitrowan.com/yarns/felted-tweed-dk">Rowan Felted Tweed</a> in fairly comparable colours.<span style="font-size: x-small;"> (Or at least I think so!)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I actually started this project this past Winter when I needed some colour in my life in a very bad way, but tossed it aside in favour of... uhm, I'm not sure what. Other knitting? Other colours? But in the past week or two, I have put a major dent it in and made it well past the halfway point. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Pat on the back for me!)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU8zmeTa-8GERMqWGHdQ3PTQg3g9-N3wj-xcUZuC_aluObCkaSBXmeemK0LIWUA5eOtdNKMCj-ncU5Iib7H26QJOFFWZNiC6rXQThIZUd6zl26B6zYwtP6__6ewxab2g5HHI890Q/s1600/DSC01607.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU8zmeTa-8GERMqWGHdQ3PTQg3g9-N3wj-xcUZuC_aluObCkaSBXmeemK0LIWUA5eOtdNKMCj-ncU5Iib7H26QJOFFWZNiC6rXQThIZUd6zl26B6zYwtP6__6ewxab2g5HHI890Q/s1600/DSC01607.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So there you have it. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soumak-scarf-wrap">Soumak</a> is what has had my heart for the past week or so.<br />

Oh, and strawberries. </div>

My good friend Becky and I met while I was attending university in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I walked into the <a href="http://www.theflowershophalifax.ca/">flower shop</a> she was managing at the time to see if they were hiring any students from Ontario who desperately wanted to stay out east for the summer- much like myself. I remember it like it was yesterday... She stood behind her work station, firing flowers into a vase like it was no big deal, all whilst 'interviewing me' at the same time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As it turns out, not only was the arrangement that she was making simply breath taking, I also happened to get the job. By the end of my first shift, we had bonded over everything from terrible movies to even worse music, fabulous food and vintage clothing. In no time, a relationship much deeper than employee/manager was struck.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fast forward nine years (WHAT!?!?!? Where does time go???), and we are both living in the Toronto area. I have moved to the 'burbs, and she has opened up her own flower studio in the wonderful west end of the city called <a href="http://www.blushandbloom.ca/">Blush and Bloom</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And whoa baby. How absolutely proud I am of her!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She has done well for herself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like... VERY well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Which should not come as a surprise to anyone who has had the privilege of working with her. She has most certainly got the mad bloom making skills to back her success up with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few weeks ago, she sent me a text that said "I am doing a wedding next week that just screams <b><u>LYNN!</u></b> Want to come help me out?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I can't say that I have much of an interest in pursuing a career in the flower world, I can admit to absolutely loving having worked at <a href="http://www.theflowershophalifax.ca/">The Flower Shop</a> with her, and continue to love flowers <span style="font-size: x-small;">(not to mention Becky)</span>- period.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However, I suspect that the photos of flowers and gardens that tend to wrap up each post on this here blog have likely tipped you off to that fact...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I marched down to her studio, and helped a sister out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1OyVzQzV4013ye9n4GCmbbCPcJQaOG3M3fxaxuEEIagbUTHb5_tfqpsE6M8feGCM0PnjgrHSWg03m1xHrP3SWpnMW4aC45M-jV-2f4KKUat8Wy2MloWSjXMyiFB2sdn5n6k9lig/s1600/DSC01508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1OyVzQzV4013ye9n4GCmbbCPcJQaOG3M3fxaxuEEIagbUTHb5_tfqpsE6M8feGCM0PnjgrHSWg03m1xHrP3SWpnMW4aC45M-jV-2f4KKUat8Wy2MloWSjXMyiFB2sdn5n6k9lig/s1600/DSC01508.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
And since I found myself giddy with delight as a result of being surrounded by such beauty all day, I thought I would sneak a few snaps to share with you.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6sajdfYWu8Escmuh5w0Ij1JubQ4bvdR7hZhlaIgyL7kxYQxk87Y8VcIkuUeS5JHQY5Lu4Eh7dUFyUtpUgYWrJbui8gcdEBYeSSHf2JWFz9uAhOVEUBRIfot6hdYP5h3wCIGwjQ/s1600/DSC01510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy6sajdfYWu8Escmuh5w0Ij1JubQ4bvdR7hZhlaIgyL7kxYQxk87Y8VcIkuUeS5JHQY5Lu4Eh7dUFyUtpUgYWrJbui8gcdEBYeSSHf2JWFz9uAhOVEUBRIfot6hdYP5h3wCIGwjQ/s1600/DSC01510.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Coral and pink peonies, eh? I wonder why she thought I would dig this wedding? <span style="font-size: x-small;">(NOT)</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Xqe0eDLvPSz0XTHnDyhLtcphKQiNGZNL3WoX-EOhlQRmq9hDjkPu8KD4YUxQLvX89i8sWcVYiLzd6y95PI97FaLkJEzjHoPb0xfik7sb8YVIFXnNub21pUvo1VqssPYtEQASVw/s1600/DSC01513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Xqe0eDLvPSz0XTHnDyhLtcphKQiNGZNL3WoX-EOhlQRmq9hDjkPu8KD4YUxQLvX89i8sWcVYiLzd6y95PI97FaLkJEzjHoPb0xfik7sb8YVIFXnNub21pUvo1VqssPYtEQASVw/s1600/DSC01513.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
While I cannot offer you the address to a store front (she is by appointment only), should you know of a bride that needs some blooms, look no further. Or perhaps maybe it is <u>you</u> that is hosting a special event and is looking for some flowery expertise! Whatever the case may be...<br />
<br />
This girl has got your number.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOzM47J40Gim2TuKtbt9AWiuYAUhTsstRBz07fEiLwlhQjpeHEkHXgiKVfJ1rP6YpflYPL18eXeqqiuzOj4wnth0CbjFlA0ZmGR3ZzKE9LTmm7IbDWATiKBBDBS8WdFfvPR5t7eA/s1600/DSC01528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOzM47J40Gim2TuKtbt9AWiuYAUhTsstRBz07fEiLwlhQjpeHEkHXgiKVfJ1rP6YpflYPL18eXeqqiuzOj4wnth0CbjFlA0ZmGR3ZzKE9LTmm7IbDWATiKBBDBS8WdFfvPR5t7eA/s1600/DSC01528.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
And each time we hang out and make something beautiful happen...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

On our last day in New York, I popped into Purl Soho for just<i> oooooone</i> last look, and I walked out with the yarn to whip up <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2011/9/15/whits-knits-chevron-baby-blanket.html">this baby blanket.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm not sure why, I don't really know how to happened... but it did. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And you know what else happened?<br /><br />I actually knit it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHVOcCk7AAhWlxahGVaK6Gy63xt9YNXT2CHTzEhceMp7msCXNoZdo7IhLFQT_OHaUqKFrTSxkSVvGb9ysRTcrrVIzKIe2X_JLhz66FWAaF67BZMpCjGYgAVKfprSnFa87saxqj3Q/s1600/DSC01556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHVOcCk7AAhWlxahGVaK6Gy63xt9YNXT2CHTzEhceMp7msCXNoZdo7IhLFQT_OHaUqKFrTSxkSVvGb9ysRTcrrVIzKIe2X_JLhz66FWAaF67BZMpCjGYgAVKfprSnFa87saxqj3Q/s1600/DSC01556.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Babies are happening all around me these days, and I think that it's best to be prepared. So why not start stock piling for when the next buddy of mine says "Guess what??? We're expecting!" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While there really couldn't be such a thing as news more exciting than that... the fact of the matter is, I just don't always get around to knitting for their wee babes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, this is my solution.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Get knitting... Long before conception even happens.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now is that sneaky, or what?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I swapped out the gorgeous soft shades that Purl suggested for some brighter, slightly more stain resistant primaries, but everything else stayed the same.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd7zohvGdS9ySmUxxY_2CC2hS_ZPDYHxityEnGIbF2m7wL8wCBhcridxUU5HhG7T9RESvGGSHDjpOBMbiFCTHgpxlG_nLp3kMY1g6L4UXsVWkYDa9j4hL5p0UbebZq8dJMfRiSnQ/s1600/DSC01560.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd7zohvGdS9ySmUxxY_2CC2hS_ZPDYHxityEnGIbF2m7wL8wCBhcridxUU5HhG7T9RESvGGSHDjpOBMbiFCTHgpxlG_nLp3kMY1g6L4UXsVWkYDa9j4hL5p0UbebZq8dJMfRiSnQ/s1600/DSC01560.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The suggested yarn, the suggested number of stitches, the suggested needles. Yup. That's what I did.<br />
<br />
Maybe kind of boring in a blog post... but it worked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrDZPHlNecvy3hrtz-9jathEFLAme4G4673eBHDtXlFL6Ru8GkIPgmpfXLJZIzLEutVX-505hzlv-iw1aGn13jBTU7xfymBS5C_4nVZIrEX_mMIXd82B_dRlYPzqRIY1qhSFgfNg/s1600/DSC01563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrDZPHlNecvy3hrtz-9jathEFLAme4G4673eBHDtXlFL6Ru8GkIPgmpfXLJZIzLEutVX-505hzlv-iw1aGn13jBTU7xfymBS5C_4nVZIrEX_mMIXd82B_dRlYPzqRIY1qhSFgfNg/s1600/DSC01563.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>The pattern?</b> <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2011/9/15/whits-knits-chevron-baby-blanket.html">A beautiful free-bee by Purl Soho themselves, which can be found right here</a>.<br />
<b>The yarn?</b> <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/products/item/721-Blue-Sky-Worsted-Cotton">Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted Cotton</a>, held double throughout in shades (from dark blue to dark orange) Jasper #636, Caribbean #630, Azul #628, Lemonade #608, Dandelion #638, Poppy #601, Pumpkin #622. The softness of this blanket is truly mind boggling.<br />
<b>The needles?</b> <a href="http://www.additurbos.com/#addiclicklonglace">8mm Addi Click Long Lace</a>. It was my first time using these puppies... and it's LOVE. Like... True love. Mad love. Deep love. If don't own a set, run- DON'T WALK!- to your nearest local yarn shop, and pick yourself up some. Just do it. TRUST ME.<br />
<b>Thoughts?</b> So fast. And so soft. That's a win/win in my books!<br />
<br />

Historically, Mary's Yarns has always had a booth at the <a href="http://downtownknitcollective.ca/wp/?page_id=14">Knitter's Frolic</a>, a weekend long event held at the <a href="http://www.jccc.on.ca/en/">Japanese Cultural Centre</a>, which is chock full of fibre related vendors, classes and people. It's always a riot of a time, and while I come home from it more exhausted than anything else in the year... I always adore being there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The knitters, the yarn, the old friends, the good times, it's a ball.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year however, had a different tone to it for me. And not because of anything the show organizers did wrong... but because I knew what was lying ahead of me in the days that were to follow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This year,<a href="http://downtownknitcollective.ca/wp/?page_id=14"> the Frolic</a> was held on Saturday, April 26th, and on Tuesday, April 29th, we let the world know what the future held for Mary's.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While I typically love to do a good walk through the show and chat with all of the other vendors whom I know and love, I opted not to this year. It felt sneaky to answer with "Everything is great thanks! How are things with you???" when they asked me the obligatory "How are things going?" question.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, I kept to myself, and stayed safely tucked into the back end of our corner booth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My good buddy Lynn. M was kind enough to join me for the duration of the show this year, and when there was a moment that it felt safe for her to slip out of the booth and have a browse, she did. Before she snuck out however, I handed her some cash and said "Please buy me the most neon sock yarn that you can find. I think that Regia makes some..." and man, oh man, did that girl ever DELIVER.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Matching neon socks- yeah... YOU HEARD ME!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I cast on that night and I simply couldn't stop. I didn't move from my couch the day that followed the Frolic and when the sun started to set on that Sunday, I had one sock completed, and the cuff of a second well on the way.<br />
<br />
Something that I discovered throughout the closure of the shop, was that colour was my therapy. It always has been... that's no secret. But during what was such an emotional time, I found that I just had to knit <i>very</i> simple patterns, in <i>very</i> colourful yarn. So that explains my need for these socks- not to mention the recently painted pink spare bedroom in my house (but that's a story I shall save for another day...)<br />
<br />

<br />
These socks remind me of my first <a href="http://www.sunice.com/ca-en/">SunIce</a> ski jacket that my mom bought me when it went on sale when I was a kid. I couldn't believe I could own something so cool... and it was in these shades <u>exactly</u>. Apparently, neon has always had a huge place in my heart, so thumbs up to my mom for letting me run with it, even when she was the one in charge of outfitting me.<br />
<br />
And you know what? That was the warmest dang ski jacket I ever owned. A very good thing when living in this beautiful country that for whatever reason prides itself on it's never-ending winters.<br />
<br />
Something tells me that these socks might be not much different than that jacket as far as keeping me warm is concerned.<br />
<br />
Now if only that jacket still fit... I would find myself with a matching set.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As for who is going to wear these absolutely out of control socks, the recipient is little ol' me- and for two reasons only.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1- I cast on in such a haze that evening, that I just went into auto-pilot mode and accidentally found myself with a pair in my size. Little thought was really put into it... but I am quite tickled with the end result.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2- I only know of one other person who might wear such insane-o neon socks, much like these ones.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Some time before there were plans to close up the shop, my sister called me up and said " I have a credit with <a href="https://www.flyporter.com/Flight?culture=en-CA">Porter airlines</a> and my husband is all out of vacation time. Want to go to NYC for the May long weekend???"</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Uhm. Yes please!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, away we went.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And while I truly felt horrid about leaving my poor mom to deal with everything that was going down at Mary's, it did feel good to escape it all for a few days. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Something that friends and family asked me while the shop was wrapping up was "Do you think that you're still going to love knitting as much as you do, once the store has closed down?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And while my answer was always "Why of course! I certainly hope so! In fact... I hope even MORE so!", this trip was confirmation that being in a knitting store will always be my jam. Even if I don't have a key to the front door.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is safe to say that the theme of this trip was 'Yarn Shops', and yarn shop, we did.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In fact... we even picked <a href="http://www.solitasohohotel.com/">the hotel that we stayed in</a>, based on the proximity to <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl">Purl Soho</a>, a yarn shop that put itself on the map years ago with it's gorgeous website, projects and colour inspiration.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
They got to know us at <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl">Purl</a>. Like... for real, they did. We were in there literally five days in a row, and it amazed me that each and every day, something new would speak to me from the shelves. Something that I had completely over looked just a mere 15 hours prior. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Why this surprised me... I'm not entirely sure. Because if there is one thing I learned while at Mary's Yarns, it's that inspiration can strike at any time, and in the same space, over and over (AND OVER!) again, day after day.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl">Purl</a> wasn't the only yarn shop that we hit. We spent a day in Brooklyn, and managed to find our way into a sweet little spot called <a href="http://brooklyngeneral.com/">Brooklyn General</a>, a place that I had caught wind of from listening to <a href="http://voolenvineknits.blogspot.ca/">Voolenvine's podcast</a>. VERY worth the trip over to Brooklyn if you are into trims, ribbons and of course... yarn. The people were friendly, the product worth a gander and the food surrounding the shop? Delish.</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Now that's what I'm talking about...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
And last but not least, we hit up <a href="http://loopymango.com/">The Loopy Mango</a>, which I think that I can safely say is one of the 'loopiest' stores I have ever set foot in. They sell... EVERYTHING. You want it? They got it. Vintage tea pots? Yup. Moccasins? Yup. Antlers? Sure. Yarn? It's there.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Not your average yarn store...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
But in our world of knitting, they are most famously known for their absolutely GIANT yarn and knitting needles.<br />
<br />
I was tempted... SO tempted to pick a ball of this massively thick/massively soft yarn, but I refrained. Not an easy thing to do...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Using my sister for scale, I'm sure that we can all agree...<br />

But I guess that one must draw the line somewhere.<br />
<br />
Le sigh...<br />
<br />
So there you have it. A weekend in NYC with two yarn crazed sisters. We did well. VERY well. As in... we might have had to buy an extra bag to bring home our haul in. Er... I mean, <b><u>I</u></b> had to buy an extra bag. But that's OK.<br />

<br />
Perhaps I should be worried.<br />
<br />
Because that very thing just happened to me.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5q6dvquJYicL9hXW2tzPjifMLZhgTh0rpoK6xvGS0aW2CusiwYdB7xAgSm9E25iYAfy3j24lkP5RZanxo70NRLdW_6r8o_omwohus67vyyjWc7L056qPoHZU9jNdYEGqkhVMOCw/s1600/photo+2+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5q6dvquJYicL9hXW2tzPjifMLZhgTh0rpoK6xvGS0aW2CusiwYdB7xAgSm9E25iYAfy3j24lkP5RZanxo70NRLdW_6r8o_omwohus67vyyjWc7L056qPoHZU9jNdYEGqkhVMOCw/s1600/photo+2+(2).JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yarn- <a href="http://www.cricketcove.com/wholesale.html">Opal Petite Prince in shade 7762</a></td></tr>

<br />
And while I am quite sure that I should possibly be concerned about my lack of recall... I must admit that I am quite tickled to be able to already cross a Christmas gift off my list for 2014.<br />
<br />

<br />
Being this organized isn't something that usually happens to me.<br />
<br />
So when it does... I'm going to run with it.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oh, bliss!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Even if I have no idea how it happened.<br />
