Straying

So, I have been experimenting with my sock knitting lately.

CRAZY. Right? So much for only knitting socks when I am sick and/or when I need to keep my hands out of mischief. PFFT!

While I am a very devoted user of double pointed needles, (as is a large chunk of our sock knitting customer base!), I thought I would switch it up.

Needles- Addi Turbo 2.5 mm, 80 cm (WHAT ELSE!?!?!?)
 So, Magic Loop it is.

All of you online people appear to favor this method, so I wanted to know what all of the fuss was about.

Initially? Rather awkward and annoying, but now that I am on the home stretch, it feels as though these socks are simply falling off the needles.

You people are onto something, and I am just a little late to the party.

What else is new?

Note- I am well past the heel and fast approaching the toe at this point.

This leaves me in the midst of a somewhat of a moral dilemma. I feel as though I am not being faithful to an old friend or something! Those double pointed needles have served me oh so well...

Thoughts?

Is it double points or Magic Loop that makes your sock knitting sing?

I like using two short circs. So there's another option for you. :)

I love the dpns. I'm afraid if I try to switch now, I'll NEVER finish a sock.

For me, it's DPNs all the way... so far! Do you get issues with laddering at all with Magic Loop?

I love my DP's. Have tried Magic Loop, and two at a time, as well. Now I'm going to give two circulars a go, but so far, I'm always coming back to my DP's.

I have resisted magic loop so far for no good reason, perhaps its the name?

Dou-ble points! Dou-ble points! (and five of 'em!)

Kudos for trying....think I'll stick to my dp's.

I do both, depending on the pattern. Magic loop is great for socks that the pattern shifts around a lot - much easier to slide stitches.
I also do magic loop on my really small (2.0 mm) needles, because I prefer a wooden dpn, and they are so skinny I'm worried I'll break them - my circulars are metal.
So my thoughts - you can have it both ways!

Definitely dpn's. Have tried two circulars and magic loop for some Spilley Jane mittens, but always come back to my dpn's for socks. Just second nature.
